Âé¶ąŇ•Ćµ hosting parent/guardian engagement night: Supporting Your Child in Learning Mathematics

The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board is pleased to offer a three-part engagement series to empower parents/guardians to foster math learning at home.Â
This parent/guardian outreach is part of the Boardâ€™s Math Achievement Action Plan to boost math support inside and outside the classroom. The virtual sessions, which are free and open to any parent/guardian who registers, will take place in November, February and April.
Session 1 – Thursday, November 9, 2023 – 6 to 7 p.m.
Topic: Supporting Your Child in Learning MathematicsÂ
Target Audience: Parents of Students in Grades 1-8
This session will be led by Dr. Christine Suurtamm, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics Education at Ottawa University. It will help parents understand how children learn math and how to develop a positive mindset about mathematics. Parents will receive tips, strategies and resources on how to best support their child with math homework and how to develop a positive â€śmathitudeâ€ť.
